SPARK:
The office will focus on housing the valued staff of NGS with dedicated team meeting spaces, nooks, and biophilic design to encourage creative collaborations. These
collabs extend past the walls as the NGS curates’ local communal bonds with the Bay area. The NGS has made a commitment with local corporations and universities to
incorporate sustainable technological building materials to support innovation and also better preserve the Presidio reserve park.
EXPLORE:
The design concept of the visitor floor is centered on National Geographic Society’s mission statement, “to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world”. To do so the entire first floor of the building will host a multitude of exhibits and activities that
facilitate exploration, inspiration, and education for the public. The design will consist of vibrant colors and biophilic patterns that mimic the wonders of nature with ample plant life, natural materials, and a large skylight feature that will flood the center of the space with natural lighting.
The visitor floor will have a small theatre for screenings that boast NGS newly digitized content as well as a tribute to the indigenous people of the Presidio and the many groups after. This will create a space for curious minds to experience National Geographic’s storytelling as a visual and auditory experience. The visitor floor will also have modern kiosk that will assist with all information.
INSPIRE:
The NGS will highlight universal design and will ensure the machines, equipment, corridors and restrooms are easy and safe to use for everyone in the community.
NGS will thoroughly take account of human capabilities and limitations so every visitor or employee can learn and work in harmony.
